Update on the Flood Disaster
As of 16 September 2026

The consequences of the devastating flash flood remain dramatic. Around 1,400 people have lost their lives and several thousand people are still missing. The chances of finding further survivors are diminishing.

Temporary bridges are being built as quickly as possible to reconnect the two sides of the Trishuli River. However, even where crossings are now possible again, the situation remains difficult: numerous roads on both sides of the river have been washed away or severely damaged. It will take a long time before all villages can once again be reached reliably and safely.

Following discussions with our local partners and the authorities, it appears that the supply of food and other urgently needed relief items is now largely secured. The focus is therefore increasingly shifting to clearing destroyed or badly damaged homes and providing targeted support to families particularly severely affected by the disaster.

Little Stars is initially concentrating its assistance on our project areas of Amthang and Kimtang. At the same time, we are providing volunteers from the Himsikha Youth Club with protective equipment and work gear for the clean-up operations in the particularly badly affected Trisuli Bazar area. Many of the houses that were not completely destroyed remain covered in mud and debris.

Jagat, the leader of the youth club in Amthang, collected the equipment provided by Little Stars from our programme manager Rajan in Kathmandu on 16 September. The protective helmets, high-visibility vests, gloves and rubber boots are now being transported to Amthang. According to the latest information, there is once again a passable, although probably temporary, route into the area.

We remain in close contact with our partners in Nepal and will continue to provide updates on the next relief measures.
